Yerba Buena Clinic Staff Honored by

Community Health Partnership

San Jose , CA Maricela Villalobos, medical assistant at Yerba Buena High School Health Clinic was honored on August 12 th at a luncheon sponsored by Community Health Partnership.

To commemorate National Health Center Week, Community Health Partnership paid tribute to those staff members at community clinics throughout the County who make a positive impact on the care received by children and adults in their surrounding neighborhoods. Community clinics in Santa Clara County care for over 80,000 patients each year - diagnosing and treating individuals for a wide range of illness and disease. In neighborhoods where many families lack adequate medical coverage, community clinics are a vital resource for everyone involved.

Maricela Villalobos has been assisting students at the Yerba Buena High School Health Clinic since July 1999. Fran Combe , Nurse Practitioner at Yerba Buena says, “ Maricela is such an asset to our practice in so many ways - she's a consummate multi-tasker and has superior organizational skills. Upon meeting her, all our patients realize almost instantly that she is genuinely interested in them and their well-being, and she will always treat them with empathy and respect - something many adolescents crave and deserve but frequently are unable to find.”

The Yerba Buena High School Health Clinic sees approximately 400 students each year. Services provided for the teens range from treatment of minor injuries to reproductive health counseling. Additionally, Clinic staff strives to educate students on healthy life-style habits such as proper diet and exercise, and the risks of tobacco, drug and alcohol abuse. Villalobos is always a welcoming face at the Clinic and many of the students stop by on regular basis just to visit.

During the summer months, while Yerba Buena High School was closed for vacation, Villalobos spent her days helping children at five other health care sites operated by School Health Clinics of Santa Clara County. Her dedication to the youth we serve is truly commendable.

Yerba Buena High School Clinic is open Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. The clinic is one of eight operated by School Health Clinics of Santa Clara County – a not for profit agency based in San Jose that ensures thousands of young people each year receive the medical care they need to remain healthy, physically fit, and in school.
