"When it comes to healthcare for children, prevention is always better than treatment. And nowhere is this more evident than with immunizations," Dr. Alpana Verma-Alag

Safeguarding Children's HealthLow-Cost Immunization Clinics Available San Jose , CA - All children deserve to have full access to immunizations and to the vaccines they need to remain healthy. Every immunization given to a child ensures that not only will that young person grow up healthy, but also that other children in the classroom, or in the neighborhood, will be at a lesser risk of contracting a preventable disease. "When it comes to healthcare for children, prevention is always better than treatment. And nowhere is this more evident than with immunizations," says Dr. Alpana Verma-Alag, medical director for School Health Clinics of Santa Clara County. Santa Clara County schools require all incoming students to complete a physical exam, be screened for tuberculosis and receive immunizations for polio, tetanus, measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B and chicken pox before they can be admitted to school. To facilitate this process, School Health Clinics of Santa Clara County is now offering low-cost immunization clinics at four of its local school-based community clinics. By providing accessible health care in a convenient location (often within walking distance of home), School Health Clinics encourages parents to have their children immunized sooner rather than later. Why are immunizations important? Immunizations protect a child against serious childhood diseases that may have long-term health effects. Without immunizations, children are at greater risk of catching a preventable disease. Without immunizations, a child can be a disease threat to other children in their school, or in their neighborhood. "At this time of the year, our clinics begin to see an increase in the number of children needing to complete their physical exams and vaccinations before they enroll in school" says Dr. Verma-Alag. "It makes everything much easier if parents don't wait until the last moment to bring their children into the clinic." Clinic staff are available every Tuesday, beginning March 7, to administer needed vaccinations. Patients are seen on a drop-in basis and cost may vary.
